n when I died. Instead, after a minute or two of torture, the pain stopped. I opened my eyes. Everything was so bright, so clear. It didn’t look real. I looked at my skin, expecting to see dried blood, but there was none. Instead I had my usual tanned skin. I stood up. I breathed in deeply. My insticts told me someone was coming. He was coming fast. I flexed my new, powerful arms and waited. A figure darted into view. He had brown hair, pale albino skin, and those red piercing eyes. I almost screamed myself. I tried to keep my cool and not get totally freaked out. He sensed my nervousness. He gave me a dazzling smile, revealing a set of ultrawhite teeth. “Welcome to immortality.” Immortality? What was he talking about? I was already immortal. He smiled again. “You are a newborn vampire.” Vampire? Darn it! How was that possible? But there was no changing it now. I was pleased to know that my voice was the same. I couldn’t stand having some bloodsucker’s bell voice. “Riley,” he replied. “Follow me. Victoria has work for us to do.” When I didn’t follow him, he yelled, “Come now!” Hmm... I could take that guy in a fight, but I don’t know how strong he is... Besides, I wanna know what he’s up to.
