- "He's far more superior than Alec."
Jax's gift gives him complete control over the senses of oneself and others, which includes sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste, balance, pain, etc. He can freely alter and manipulate them.
He can either enhance, reduce or remove them temporarily or permanently, protect them from being overwhelmed or he can overwhelm someone else's, cause his enemies to sense things that aren't there or prevent them from sensing things that are, cause/remove sensory ailments, etc.
Like the majority of vampire gifts, Jax's gift is mental; so his gift can be blocked by Bella and Alessandra's ability to block mental abilities. He is able to manipulate the sense of many people at the same time, however, he must concentrate on the people he wishes to use his gift on. Also, sometimes when he is manipulating the senses and is making someone sense something which is not there, he creates what feels like a wall in the targets mind, but if they realize it is a wall, they are able to walk through it. This, however, is very difficult to do.
Jax's power had manifested already when he was human, though it was much weaker and unstable. The reason for his gift manifesting when he was human was because Jax was often bullied and isolated when he was a child. So, he'd accidentally lash out with his powers.
When he was changed, his power only grew stronger, allowing him to be able to manipulate people's senses.
- Alec's ability of sense deprivation is similar to Jax's, though he can only cut off the senses sight, taste, smell, touch, and hearing.
- Jane - Alec's twin sister - has the exact opposite of his. She can make any one person she focuses on experience excrutiating illusory pain of fire, which is comparable to the pain of being burned alive. Like Jax, her power is merely a powerful illusion and works mentally.
- Zafrina has the gift of illusion: she can make others see what she wants them to see. Her power is also long ranged, and works instantly. This power is similar to sense manipulation in the way that it can block the sense of sight, making the target see nothing at all. The illusions she projects are so real that someone can easily be fooled.
